Mr. Mercil, President and CEO, oversees all activities at RAIN Source Capital and is responsible for building its portfolio. He has over 20 years experience in small business finance including structuring and negotiating transactions for manufacturing and technology companies. He served nine months as interim CEO of one of Minnesota Investment Network’s portfolio companies. As the Equity Fund Manager of Minnesota Technology, Inc., Mr. Mercil was responsible for the development and launching of the equity fund. As a result of his eight-year tenure as President of Crookston Jobs, Inc. and Executive Director of Crookston EDA, he has a proven track record with business development and finance for small to medium-size companies in rural Minnesota. As Executive Vice President, Ms. Wurzer is responsible for developing and building RAIN Source Capital’s portfolio. Ms. Wurzer conducts business plan reviews, due diligence, and financial market analysis in the technology and manufacturing sectors. For six years, she was an Investment Manager at Minnesota Technology, Inc. During her tenure of 12 years in Dain Rauscher’s Corporate Finance Department, Ms. Wurzer’s responsibilities included department compliance officer and management of budget and expense control for the home office and three branch offices. Mr. Johnson, Executive Vice President, has 20 years of successful venture capital investing experience concentrating on Technology and Healthcare companies. He has served as General Partner or Principal for Pathfinder Venture Capital Funds, ArrowHead Capital Management, Capstone Ventures SBIC, and FBS Venture Capital Funds. He has served on the board of directors of 17 high technology companies. Mr. Johnson is an active member of the Minnesota Venture Capital Association and served as its President in 1992. Mr. Birkeland, Chief Financial Officer, is responsible for managing the financial reporting and accounting for RAIN Source Capital and coordinating the support functions to the RAIN Funds. Mr. Birkeland also works on due diligence tasks for RAIN Fund Investments. Previously, Mr. Birkeland was the CFO for Minnesota Research Fund, a technology transfer firm. He was responsible for the fund’s financial functions as well as serving as CFO of selected Minnesota Research Fund portfolio companies. Mr. Birkeland has worked as an independent consultant to emerging companies, for Accenture in new business development and Arthur Andersen in the tax practice.
